GAME RULES
The Strikers league uses a smaller field designed for 9v9 play. The only major rule that is different from a regular 11v11 game is that Strikers are not allowed to head the ball.
The game begins with a kick off at midfield. The opposing players must stay outside of the center circle. The ball may be kicked in any direction to begin the game.
The game has four 15-minute quarters. Halftime is 5 minutes long. The referee is the official timekeeper for the game.
There are unlimited substitutions during the game. A player substitution can occur during any stoppage of play (goal kick, throw-in, corner kick, free kick). Substitutes should stand at mid-field and wait for permission from the referee to enter the field. The referee will restart the game when the substitution is completed.
Keepers are allowed to punt the ball to put in back into play.
Offsides - occurs at center line
Free Kicks - There are both indirect and direct free kicks. An indirect kick requires a second player to touch the ball before a goal can be scored. Referees signal an indirect free kick by holding an arm in the air. A goal can be scored off of a direct free kick. Penalty kicks are included in the rules for certain fouls inside the penalty box.
Throw-in - Incorrect throw-ins will result in the ball being given to the opposing team.
Corner Kicks - are used to put the ball back into play when the defending team last touches the ball before it goes across the endline.
Penalty Kicks - a foul inside the penalty box resulting in a direct kick is taken as a penalty kick. Penalty kicks are taken from penalty spot by the attacking team. The goalie may move laterally across the goal but must have at least one foot on the goal line until the kick is taken.
Heading - if a player heads the ball, the opposing team is awarded an indirect kick at the point of the headed ball.
