Risk Management
Requirements

All coaches are required to successfully complete the following to be a Head or Assistant Coach for LYSA.

Please complete each risk management requirement and upload certificates to your Sprocket account where applicable.

CONCUSSION AWARENESS

All Coaches and Assistant Coaches are required to complete a Concussion Awareness course and obtain a certification.  The certification is valid for two (2) years.  The NFHS has teamed up with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) to educate coaches, officials, parents and students on the importance of proper concussion recognition and management in high school sports. The course highlights the impact of sports-related concussion on athletes, teaches how to recognize a suspected concussion, and provides protocols to manage a suspected concussion with steps to help players return to play safely after a concussion. The concussion certification course can be accessed using the link below.

The Concussion Course takes about 60 minutes to complete.  You will need to create an account through NFHS; please record your sign in information.  At the end of the course, you will be able to download a Certificate.

LINDSAY'S LAW

What is Sudden Cardiac Arrest? A Sudden Cardiac Arrest (SCA) occurs when the heart suddenly and unexpectedly stops beating, cutting off blood flow to the brain and other vital organs.  Sudden cardiac arrest is fatal if not treated immediately, most often by a defibrillator.  SCA may be caused by:

  • structural heart disease

  • electrical heart disease

  • situational caused; people who have normal hearts and are hit in the chest or develop a heart infection

Ohio enacted a law in 2017 requiring all coaches, parents and participants in youth sports to be knowledgeable about sudden cardiac arrest.  The link below contains the required training for coaches.

THERE IS NO CERTIFICATE AT THE END OF THE TRAINING

SAFE SPORT CERTIFICATION

ALL COACHES are required to take the SafeSport training.  It focuses issues in youth sports associated with sexual, physical and mental abuse.  The course lasts about 2 hours; you can't skip through it.

Everyone MUST take SafeSport training EACH season. If this is your first time, the course lasts TWO FULL HOURS.  You cannot skip through it though you can stop and start.  If you are retaking it, it is a much shorter version.

If you are completing training for the first time:

BACKGROUND SCREEN

All volunteers who act as a Head or Assistant Coach for LYSA must pass a background screen every two years.  LYSA runs its background checks through the SAY National soccer organization.  Use the link below to access the data input form to have the background check conducted.  There is no cost to the applicant; LYSA pays for the screen.

On the first page you will need to select OHIO as the state, COACH as the registration type and SAY NORTH-LOVELAND as the Club. Additional fields will ask for personal information so the background screen can be run.

RESULTS OF THE BACKGROUND SCREEN WILL BE PROVIDED TO LYSA BY SAY SOCCER.
